Health and Safety Guidelines for PyCon Ghana

PYCON GHANA 2022 HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES

PyCon Ghana 2022 is returning to Accra, Ghana for a live, in-person event. Over 150 participants will join us in Accra, Ghana October 13th - 15th 2022.
Your health and safety are important to us. We actively track the emerging news and science around the new Omicron variant. We will continue to monitor and adjust our plans and health protocols as necessary. PyCon Ghana also continues to monitor guidelines for health safety measures from the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service. PyCon Ghana will follow applicable state and local laws, adapting PyCon Ghana’s plans accordingly and sharing updates with you and other PyCon Ghana audiences. We are also working closely with the Accra community, including the Ministry of Health Ghana, conference venue and accommodation area, and if they adjust their plans, we will communicate that as well.
The details below are just some of the precautions we will implement for PyCon Ghana. We will continue to evaluate and expand our health safety protocols as medical recommendations evolve, and will update this page in accordance so you know what to expect when you arrive in Accra, Ghana for PyCon Ghana.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT PYCON GHANA REQUIRED:

We intend to strictly observe all COVID-19 guidelines throughout the duration of the conference. Please endeavor to observe the following guidelines:

  • All attendees are to wear a nose mask during the conference.
  • Social distancing will be maintained in all the halls used for the conference.
For attendees and speakers traveling to Ghana, you must complete an online declaration form, upload and provide a copy of a negative PCR COVID-19 test, and book post-arrival tests via the online portal. Once you have done this, you will be issued a “permit to travel” via the portal.

    All travelers arriving in Ghana must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result conducted no more than 48 hours before departure. For passengers with multiple connections before arrival in Ghana, the PCR test must be valid within 48 hours of boarding from the first point of departure.

    All travelers are required to do a COVID-19 PCR test on day 2 after arrival. Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated (1 dose only) travelers are required to self-isolate for 7 days and to do a COVID-19 test on day 2 and day 7 after arrival in order to exit isolation.
  3. 3.
    All outbound travelers departing Ghana must present evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination OR a negative COVID-19 PCR test conducted no more than 48 hours before departure. This must be done regardless of the entry requirements of the destination country.

Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination :

  • PyCon Ghana attendees must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination in order to pick up a PyCon Ghana 2022 badge.
  • Attendees must be fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved by the Ministry of Health Ghana or the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Non-Ghana based attendees must present their proof of vaccination at a designated location.
  • Once you have provided your proof of vaccination and picked up your badge, you will not need to verify your vaccination status again.​

Visa Information

Are you a citizen of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Nigeria? Then you do not require a visa to visit Ghana. Citizens of all other countries require a visa obtainable from any Ghanaian Embassy or Consulate close to them. You will also be required to have proof of polio, yellow fever, and Covid19 vaccinations to enter Ghana.

Airport and Travel

All international travel will be through Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana. Major airlines provide daily services to many international destinations. Some hotels offer pick-up services and we encourage participants with such options to use the services. Taxis are also available in addition to Uber and Bolt services.

Advice for International Visitors

Please read this information carefully, and check every item. Some of it is crucial and it will help you have a better travel process.
  • Visa: You may need a visa to enter Ghana. You must check this, otherwise, you will most likely be denied entry, or probably not be permitted to board your flight. If you have any questions, please contact us right away.
  • Vaccination certificate: To enter Ghana, you need a Covid19 certificate, proof of polio immunization, and yellow fever vaccination. Otherwise, you will likely be denied entry. Please ensure you have this in advance, do not wait until the last minute. Other optional certificates include Hepatitis A, Tetanus, and Typhoid.
  • Malaria precautions: The entire country of Ghana, including Accra, is designated as a high-risk malaria zone. It is advised that travelers take additional measures in addition to antimalarial medications like Malarone (atovaquone/proguanil hydrochloride). After nightfall, protect yourself from mosquito bites by dressing in long sleeves and pants, applying insect repellent to any exposed skin, and, if necessary, sleeping under a mosquito net. Ensure to bring the appropriate clothing and creams.

Food and Beverage Precautions

  • Catering and concession outlets at PyCon Ghana will follow health and safety precautions including adequate spacing to promote social distancing and provide pre-packaged food options.

Healthy Habits

  • Hand sanitizing stations will be placed throughout PyCon Ghana venues to encourage frequent hand sanitization.
  • We will issue best practices for attendees that include avoiding shaking hands and how exhibitors can best manage product demonstrations.

DISCLAIMER

PyCon Ghana takes these Health & Safety Guidelines very seriously and will therefore enforce a 3-strike rule. Anyone who violates these guidelines on three separate accounts, such as continuing to not wear a proper mask or disregarding social distancing, is subject to removal from the conference. Anyone who provides false vaccination verification will not be admitted to PyCon Ghana.
